Pick Pack and Ship

Pick pack and ship steps are part of every in-house order fulfillment process. When your business receives an order, someone from your warehouse will retrieve the item(s) from the shelves (picking), pack the order according to size and nature of the product, and then label and ship it out to the customer.

SOS Inventory’s fulfillment system is part of the sales workflow and will make warehouse processing easier. Your team can choose to use pick tickets, if needed, and print out packing slips. The pick ticket provides instructions to warehouse workers about what products to pull including pertinent information like amounts, serial, and lot numbers but do not remove inventory automatically. To update inventory quantities, someone will record the pulled item on a shipment, removing it from available inventory quantities. Even if a customer were to pick items up at your location, they would still be removed from inventory on hand by recording them as a shipment.

You may generate a shipment directly from a sales order or invoice by choosing “Create Shipment” from the Actions Menu. The shipment will be generated from the information in the originating transaction pulling items, quantities, costs, customer information, etc. which may then be edited to your liking.

pick pack and shipQ: Can you create a shipment without an accompanying sales transaction?

A: Yes, you can. Simply choose “Shipment” from the “Fulfillment” menu and select “Add New.” Alternatively, you can initiate a shipment from the Shipments list, also choosing “Add New” from there.

All orders will be displayed in the ready to pick/ship report, displaying inventory on hand or available for sale. As new inventory comes in, you can refer to this report to fulfill backordered items.

Each time you create a shipment, SOS Inventory will automatically generate a customizable packing slip to print.

New invoices or sales receipts generated in your linked QuickBooks Online account can automatically create shipments if you enable this feature under “Sales Settings.”

Picking for Promotions

Often, items are sold together as kits or collections at a special price to move more inventory or generate larger orders as is common around the holidays. Some businesses perform the kitting process during fulfillment, as the items are not grouped into a single package.

Packing

The person responsible for packing will also confirm the correct items are chosen to ship. He or she will pack up the order with a packing slip and affix a shipping label. The label will contain shipping information including the carrier tracking number, important for locating an item along its journey to the customer.

Once retrieved by the carrier, the order is marked as shipped and the tracking process begins.
